DREAM BOOK REQUEST:
Tabb’s Terrific Ten: Creating a more focused, respectful, and productive learning space
REQUESTED BY: Doreen Tabb, 9-12 Business, Computer, and Information Technology Teacher; FBLA Club Adviser
BENEFITS: Approximately 140 grade 9-12 students at Woodland Hills High School
BACKGROUND: My goal is to reinforce appropriate classroom conduct—particularly in some of my more challenging classes—to create a more focused, respectful, and productive learning space with minimal disruptions. I will continue to collect attendance data and track grades as well as behaviors. I will give daily participation points and will deduct for bad behaviors. Daily I will praise and give small rewards. Each nine weeks I will select “the Top Ten” based on the total participation points earned. These top performing students will earn a certificate, public recognition, bonus points, a positive phone call home, and a special reward. Points will be awarded to students who exhibit behaviors such as maintaining cleanliness, staying seated, remaining on task, and showing respect. Conversely, students who do not meet these expectations will lose points, reinforcing accountability and encouraging a culture of responsibility and excellence.”
