BENEFITS: Dickson Steam Academy 8th Grade Students

BACKGROUND:

In an effort to improve student growth on the upcoming MAP test and PSSA Exam, an incentive program has been developed by the 8th Grade Teachers to motivate students for each of the upcoming test dates. MAP scores are being monitored closely to guide instruction and focus on areas where students are struggling. Our main goal is to motivate students to take each exam seriously and with fidelity.

December- MAP TEST:

Any 8th grade student who shows growth on their MAP scores will be permitted to attend a dance on December 19th during the 8th period in the cafeteria. Students who have shown growth will be given a ticket for entry into the dance. All other students will report to their period 8 class.

March-MAP TEST:

Any 8th grade student who shows growth on two of the four tested areas on their MAP tests will be permitted to attend a pizza party and age appropriate stand-up comedian during the 8th period in the cafeteria. Students who have shown growth will be given a ticket for entry to the show. All other students will report to their period 8 class.

April-PSSA Exams:

Any 8th grade student who attends each day of PSSA testing, and has a successful “on-task chart for each day during testing, will be permitted to attend an ice cream social/dance on May 9th during 8th period in the cafeteria. Students will be given a ticket for entry to the dance. All other students will report to their period 8 class.

May- AMC Theatre Field Trip:

Any 8th grade student who has met the incentive goals for December, March and April will be eligible to attend a movie at the AMC Movie Theatre at the Waterfront during the school day on May 22nd. Each will be given a ticket for entry into the movie along with popcorn and a drink. Buses will be arranged to transport the students to and from the theater. All other students will attend their normally scheduled class schedule.

DREAM REQUESTED:

School bus(es): $50.00 an hour per bus

Ice Cream/supplies: $150

Movie Tickets: $600.00

Pizza: $200.00

Popcorn/drink: $7.00 per student water: $40.00

DREAM AMOUNT: $1,000.00
