DREAM BOOK REQUEST:
Help Send Turtle Creek 5th Graders to the Pittsburgh Pirates Education Day!
REQUESTED BY: Jolene O’Leary, 5th Grade Regular Education Teacher
BENEFITS: 5th Grade Students at Turtle Creek STEAM Academy
BACKGROUND: For the past three years, the 5th-grade students at Turtle Creek Elementary have experienced an unforgettable day of learning and fun at the Pittsburgh Pirates Education Day. This isn't just a trip to a baseball game; it's a unique, integrated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning opportunity presented by the renowned Carnegie Science Center—all hosted at PNC Park!
Why This Project Matters: For many of our students, this trip provides a rare chance to attend a major public event. It opens their eyes to:
The Science of Baseball: Students learn the physics, data analysis, and engineering principles behind the sport, turning the ballgame into a hands-on lesson.
Social and Emotional Learning: Navigating a large-scale event helps students practice positive social interactions and community behavior.
Pure Joy: It's a day for our students to simply be kids, creating lasting memories with their friends outside of the classroom.
Thanks to the generous support of community members, families, and local companies, we've been able to make this dream a reality for past classes. Now, we are asking for your help to ensure this tradition continues. This year, we have more students than we have ever had, so we need to raise $3,000 to cover the cost of tickets and bus transportation for all 100 5th-grade students and supervising staff members. Your contribution will directly send the entire 2026 5th-grade class to this valuable and exciting educational event. Help us make this inspiring day a reality for another group of Turtle Creek students!
